Carnival season has kicked off in many places around the world. These mud men take part in the "Farrapos" mud battle in the Entroido carnvival in Laza, north-west Spain. Indian sand artist Sudarson Patnaik created this homage to the eight Oscars won by the film Slumdog Millionaire at the Academy Awards. While efforts to rebuild the Afghan capital, Kabul, are being made, some areas bear the scars of the country's two decades of war.
