Autumn colours: leaves across Britain begin to turn orange and red

A Cambridge University college covered in Virginia Creeper looks spectacular as it turns into a blaze of red. It completely covers the back of the building at St John's College and has become one of the most famous autumn sights in Cambridge as the leaves change from green to scarlet.

Dan Booth, Head Gardener for English Heritage, sent us this picture of fly agaric mushrooms at Brodsworth Hall and Gardens in South Yorkshire. We will create a readers' autumn picture gallery soon. If you have a photograph you'd like us to consider for a picture gallery, please email it to mypic@telegraph.co.uk, supplying a little info on where and how the picture was taken.

The ancient woodland surrounding the bog was his inspiration to create the ancient forests in his books, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
