These incredible images show a section of rainbow that appears to have separated from the rest of its arc. Rather than the typical arch-shape, the band of colour was like a big spot in the sky. Holiday snap: A section of rainbow appears to have separated from the rest of its arc in the sky above Phuket, an island off the south-west coast of Thailand Even more strange for amateur photographer Olga Gladysheva, 37, was that it was taken when there wasn't even a hint of rain on land. She theorised that the small rainbow was formed by moisture coming off the sea surface reacting with sunlight in the humid climate. But the photos - which were taken on Phuket, an island off the south-west coast of Thailand - show that it was actually raining. The rain causing the rainbow can be seen as dark grey lines trailing into the top part of it. Experts said that it is not unusual for only certain sections of a rainbow to be visible and that blobs of colour such as this occur with relative regularity. She said: 'It made my holiday, I couldn't believe it when I saw it. 'I spotted this unusual rainbow on Phuket Island at sunset, I thought it was strange because there wasn't any rain around at the time. 'It wasn't the normal shape for a rainbow in the form of an arch, it was more like a big blob of colour in the sky.'
